All about our carriers/bases for our products:
Cocoa Butter; Theobroma cacao: Organically crafted, extra virgin cocoa butter from the roasted seeds of the cacao tree grown in Ecuador. It is has a decadent natural chocolate aroma. This yellowish-toned, hard butter softens at body temperature, making it a silky butter that gives body butters a creamy consistency.
Red Palm Oil: comes from pressing the fleshy part of the palm fruit of the African oil palm Elaeis guineensis. It is unrefined and may have bits of chunky butter in it that is lighter in color. This is its natural texture and perfectly normal. Red palm oil is an excellent moisturizer and skin conditioner. It has powerful antioxidant and skin protective properties. Red palm oil can soothe itchy, red skin and help normalize and even out skin tone and texture. Used in body butter and salve blends.
Palm Kernel Oil; Elaeis guineensis: pressed from the kernels of the African oil palm Elaeis guineensis. An oil that provides a smooth texture and has a lovely light brown color. Its unique aroma hints of creamy caramel and nutty decadence. Palm kernel oil is wonderfully emollient and great for skin. Used in salves and body butters.
Coconut Oil; Cocos nucifera: cold pressed from coconuts in tropical areas. Coconut oil is high in saturated fats, which are excellent for revitalizing, moisturizing, and relieving dry, itchy skin. Used in salves and body butters, and can be used as a carrier oil.
Kombo Butter: comes from the seeds of the tropical Pycnanthus angolensis tree found in West Africa, also known as African nutmeg. Useful for soothing dry and irritated skin, and it may also help alleviate joint and muscle pain. Used in body butter blends.
Jojoba Oil; Simmondsia chinensis: organic jojoba oil is pressed from the beans of the shrub-like plant from the southern United States. Jojoba closely resembles our skin’s own sebum—the oily secretions our skin produces to protect itself—making it a natural alternative to moisturizing creams. It is highly penetrating and contains powerful antioxidants. (Often called “oil” it is actually a liquid wax.) Used in salves, body butters, and as a carrier oil to dilute essential oils for use on the skin.
Beeswax Pellets; Apis mellifera: organically crafted from New Zealand (A rich, golden color and divinely aromatic, with hints of sweet honey.) Used to help solidify salves and body butters. (*Please note - bee sting poison is NOT in beeswax.)
